Young Kennel Club Competitions
The YKC area is packed full of displays, competitions and interactive fun for young people aged 6 to 24 years so if you are looking to try something new and ‘have a go’ whilst at the show, you are looking in the right place. Our stand and ring offer the chance for all young people at the show – from children right through to young adults – to join in the fun.
Jump Around
Stop the Clock Jump with Rufus is back in the YKC ring! Pets as Therapy volunteers come along with their loyal companions to offer the audience the chance to try their hand at a small Agility obstacle course. The display begins with our cuddly but competitive mascot, ‘Rufus’, setting the time for the course. Young visitors are then given the chance to come up and have a go at beating his time with the help of Pets as Therapy dogs and their handlers to guide them around the course. This is fantastic fun for all the family and must not be missed.
Tricks of the Trade
We are offering everyone the opportunity to learn the tricks of the trade within the dog world, if you have ever wondered how professional trainers get their dogs to perform tricks in the ring, make sure you don’t miss out on our interactive training session where you will be able to have a go yourself with help from our experienced trainers.
As well as all of the above we also have brilliant displays from the charities which we work closely with to demonstrate to the audience all of the brilliant work that they are pioneering with children and dogs. These include Hearing Dogs for Deaf People and Canine Partners.
AND if you are already a YKC member, why not try your hand at qualifying for Crufts in one of the YKC competitions?
Grooming Marvellous
If you can groom your dog (whether a simple brush and clean or a more precise trim) this is the competition for you so make sure you come along to watch the fun. Members of all ages and levels and dogs of all shapes and sizes are welcome - small, large, crossbreed, pedigree, long haired...the list is endless.
Handle for Success
If you know what a judge is looking for in a dog and handler team then enter the YKC Handling qualifier and you and your dog could find yourself at Crufts 2013!
Entry forms for both competitions can be found online at www.ykc.org.uk.
