Your chance to compete at Discover Dogs - Scruffts comes to Suffolk

Scruffts, sponsored by James Wellbeloved - the dog show where pedigree doesn’t matter

Calling all owners of crossbred and mixed breed dogs in Suffolk, have you ever wanted to take part in a dog competition but couldn’t because your dog didn’t have the right pedigree? Well, this is your chance.

The East Anglian Festival of Light will be hosting a heat of the Scruffts Family Crossbreed Dog of the Year competition, supported by James Wellbeloved, on Sunday August 29th at this year’s show which takes place at Hadleigh United Football Club in Hadleigh, Suffolk.

Scruffts is the nation’s most prestigious competition for crossbred and mixed breed dogs, and is run by the Kennel Club. The competition provides great fun for dog owners as well as the opportunity to experience the excitement of competing.   There are four fun dog classes to enter:

·        Most Handsome Crossbreed Dog             6 months – 7years
·        Prettiest Crossbreed Bitch                          6 months – 7 years
·        Child’s Best Friend*                                     6 months – 12 years
·        Golden Oldie                                                 8 years plus

*handled by a young person between 6 and 16 years of age inclusively.

Judges take into account the importance of dog training and responsible dog ownership, and will judge the entrants on good character, health and temperament. Rosettes are awarded to the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd positions in each class, and each dog that receives a 1st place is eligible to compete in the final at London’s leading dog event, Discover Dogs, which takes place on the weekend of November 13th and 14th 2010 at Earls Court.

The East Anglian Festival of Light Show takes place on August 28th and 29th, and entry for the Scruffts heat on the Sunday cost just £1 per class. All money raised goes to the Kennel Club Charitable Trust, which aims to help make a difference for dogs by funding a wide variety of work ranging from supporting research into canine diseases to welfare initiatives.
