Lucy, a six year old chocolate Labrador, has been crowned London’s Top Dog by Heart FM listeners.
The online poll saw Lucy chosen above hundreds of other dogs in London in a competition run in conjunction with London’s biggest dog event, Discover Dogs, run by the Kennel Club at Earls Court earlier in the month.
Lucy has been attending agility classes for four years with her owner Linzi Follett, a member of the Kennel Club’s Companion Dog Club, as well as obedience and heelwork to music classes, performing a stunning routine set to music. Linzi and Lucy have also competed in many Companion Dog Shows; fun, informal events that all dogs can take part in to raise money for charity.
Lucy has previously been asked to take part in filming work for the popular TV show ‘It’s Me or the Dog’, where contestants faced a number of challenges to test dog intelligence. For the past three years, Lucy has also worked as a ‘Pets as Therapy’ dog, where she visits sick, elderly or vulnerable people to help bring joy to their lives.
Linzi, Lucy’s owner, said: “She is truly a remarkable dog who enjoys life so much and brings happiness to many people as a PAT dog.
“Being a member of the Companion Dog Club has enabled me and Lucy to have so much fun together, entering shows and achieving this fantastic award from Heart FM. She’s the best companion I could wish for.”
Caroline Kisko, Communications Director at the Kennel Club, commented: “What an achievement for Linzi and her dog Lucy, and this reward reflects Lucy’s wide range of abilities. This also illustrates perfectly the many roles dogs play in our society and their importance in helping and entertaining people.
“Lucy does great work as a PAT dog and we are so glad that Linzi and Lucy took part in this year’s Companion Dog Club Competition – which raised money for the Kennel Club Charitable Trust . We want to congratulate them both on this well deserved prize.”
