Barack Obama may have just become the most powerful man in the world but one of his first duties will be to find his daughters a new puppy, which is why the Kennel Club would like to invite him to an event in London that will help him to make that all important choice about his “first dog” in the White House.
Discover Dogs, a doggy extravaganza that allows dog-lovers to find out about more than 200 breeds of dog, would be the perfect opportunity for the future President to find the breed that is right for him and his family.
Perhaps Mr Obama would like to go for the Borzoi, a well balanced, graceful and dignified breed that would suit his own persona. Or course, as an active man, who likes to keep fit, a Weimaraner from the gundog group would be perfect for his sporty nature.
Or perhaps, as the underdog of the election he would prefer to go for a vulnerable British Breed, such as the Lakeland Terrier – bold, friendly and self confident.
Carolyn Menteith, behaviourist and Companion Dog Club judge at Discover Dogs, had her own recommendations: She said: “As a busy man the President may be looking for a dog that is easy to train, to protect those carpets in the White House. But as a family man, Mr Obama might be very well suited to a playful and sociable dog, such as a Boxer, that makes a great family pet and would help to build some bridges and lighten the nation’s mood.”
Caroline Kisko, Kennel Club spokesperson, said: “We would be honoured if the American President to be was able to find his perfect canine partner by coming to our Discover Dogs event in London.
“We have a whole range of experts on hand to talk to prospective puppy buyers about which breed would suit them and think Barack Obama would find some very helpful hints and tips by coming along to our event, before making this important decision.
“We are very pleased to hear that the White House is a dog-friendly place and that the President is therefore supporting the concept of our Open for Dogs campaign, that aims to make more places accessible for dogs and dog owners.
“We think it is great that Mr Obama has not forgotten how to be a family man by offering to buy his children a puppy and no matter what breed he gets we know that the dog will be there throughout good times and bad, as his loyal and faithful companion.”
Discover Dogs will take place at Earls Court 2 on 8th and 9th November. For tickets please visit www.discoverdogs.org.uk/ticket-office or phone 0871 230 7154.
