It's raining dogs in London

Discover Dogs, organised by the Kennel Club in association with Royal Canin, will be taking place on 8th and 9th November at Earls Court 2, London. The event will be celebrating its 13th year of delighting dog devotees from all over the UK, with new and exciting attractions alongside a range of traditional crowd favourites.

With over 200 breeds all under one ‘woof’, Discover Dogs is the ideal place to learn more about the pleasures of canine companionship, and all the other benefits that owning a pedigree dog can bring. The show is an interactive experience dedicated to every aspect of canine care, promoting responsible dog ownership and showcasing the diversity and talents of man’s best friend.

Visitors can talk to expert owners and breed representatives about everything from training to grooming, as well as being amazed by the agility and skills of dogs from all walks of life, from the Metropolitan Police Dogs to Assistance Dogs, Crufts winners and mixed breeds. There is also the opportunity to do some serious shopping with over 100 trade stands at the event selling just about everything you can think of for your doggie friend, whether they're canine or human!

Dog owners from all over the country will be taking part in some very diverse competitions. Firstly, the final of the Scruffts Family Crossbreed of the Year will take place on Sunday 9th November. Heats have been held across the length and breadth of the country during the year and the final will be judged by a celebrity judge, to be announced nearer the time.

The Kennel Club’s very own Companion Dog Club, for ALL dogs, will be inviting its members to join in the fun with competitions designed to entertain dogs and owners. With commentary by Peter Purves and contests including Waggiest Tail, there are bound to be cute canine capers galore to thrill the crowds.

After several months of qualifying heats, the semi-finals of the coveted Kennel Gazette Junior Warrant Winner of the Year competition will also take place, with the successful entrants going on to the Final at Crufts in March 2009. The Kennel Gazette Junior Warrant showcases the potential Best in Show winners of the future and is open to pedigree dogs aged between 6-18 months.

The National Junior Handling UK Final will take place on the Sunday, with the winner going through to the International Junior Handling Final at Crufts. In Junior Handling, children aged from 6 to 16 present their dogs to the judge and it is the skill of the handler which is being judged, rather than the dog.

Caroline Kisko, Kennel Club spokesperson, said, “Discover Dogs continues to get bigger and better, and provides an experience for visitors that is fun and educational and a great day out for all the family. The dog’s role in society is so important and the Kennel Club is privileged to be able to hold this event to demonstrate just how much dogs bring to our lives.”
