Monty the Norfolk Terrier

MontyMy name's Monty, you know Montgomery, like the General but that's my posh name, not for every day.

I'm a Norfolk Terrier, just over a year old so I'm not very old at all.

Sarah Wright, my Mum, reckons that I have all the best bits of a terrier, but then she would wouldn't she since she's the founder member of my fan club. She says she likes to see me strutting about and because I'm not a working dog I've got a happy curly tail.

She'd heard about Norfolk Terriers and had liked what she had heard about our temperament. So she checked us out at Discover Dogs with her girls before she had found my breeder, to get the inside info on what we like and things. All the dogs were happy to talk to them, be handled and answer lots of questions,so they could be sure we were the right dog for them.

Some people think we're lap dogs but we're definitely not. Although I'm keen to please her, its not my main purpose in life. It's not really what we're all about. After all we were bred to do a specific job, independently and that's why we are independent.

My idea of fun is to chase small furry things, and although I am very interested
in the hamsters, mice and guinea pigs at home it's not really playing with them I have in mind.

I really love people and particularly children, but then I had lots of plays and cuddles with them when I was little so I know how to play nicely with them and they know how to play nicely with me, so it'Montys great fun for all of us. If I see some kids playing I always make a beeline for them to join in.

Mum's pretty well trained but I suppose she's a work in progress. I know that charm can go a long way and it definitely works with her.So then we can just get on with things and both settle down and not be "too demanding".

I'm not too well at the moment as I've just been neutered and at the same time I had a lump checked out. Mum just wanted to be sure as it had grown a bit recently so we're having a biopsy done. So I'm sitting here in my bed in the kitchen with a shaved head and lampshade round my neck,  feeling rather sorry for myself. But I'll be my old self soon enough.

My favourite place to be is on the back of the sofa watching through the window
to check out who's about so that I can tell them that this is my place.
