As a true Wheaten Terrier I am energetic, boisterous, affectionate and fun-loving. I have a big black nose, and beautiful brown eyes, Mum reckons I’m gorgeous.
My coat by the way is my best feature, I have a beautiful soft wheaten coloured coat, which although it does not shed, I have to be really well groomed EVERY WEEK! I do struggle a bit - I ’m not that keen on it but my Mum keeps on going because its worth it in the end.
I like a nice walk, but I do pull a bit on the lead, best of all I love a good run off lead, in a big open space so I can experience life to the full, with the wind in my lovely coat, some of us Wheatens can’t help enjoying a bit of mud or water.
When I get home, I love to get a good long sleep, stretched out or even upside down, paws in the air, to dream about the next lovely walk, or my dinner.
I really like meeting new people, although they do not always seem to like me jumping up, but I Mum says I’ll grow out of that when I am older, but us Wheatens take a while to grow up and mature - whatever that means.
I am a clever dog, abut I don’t always do what is expected of me straight away, like come here, when I am thinking, yes ok, in a minute, so Mum has had to train me well, and be very patient. Sometimes I have a mind of my own, and may ignore her, I sort of pretend I don’t hear her, a sort of selective deafness, I might just be too busy right now. So she pretends she has a treat for me, or gets the car keys and the lead and I’m there like a shot.
When she throws a ball for me I tend to think she doesn’t want it back, and I’ll leave it where it lands. I like playing with doggies toys, squeaky ones are good, but tug of war is doesn’t show me at my best. But I can find a treat under the cushion very well, Mum says a very good game, helps me focus.
I like visitors to my house, they get the full wheaten welcome, whether they want it or not, they are just new friends to me. My favourite people are the people I live with, the ones that take me out and love me for what I am. But I am also fond of people with treats in their pockets.
